As my time as an intern at Viden Marketing comes to a close, I can’t help but feel sentimental about the incredible opportunity I was given to work with a group of professionals that I respect so much. All of you have played a part in making this internship one of the best things I’ve ever done and I feel so fortunate for the opportunity to have worked with each one of you.
Looking Back on My Time at Viden
Knowing that today is my last day, I can’t help but think back to when I was finishing up my sophomore year this past May. I was feeling confident about my decision to pursue a degree in Advertising and Public Relations, but I was still unsure about what exactly a career in this field would look like, and what role I would play in it.
When the opportunity arose to work as an intern at Viden, I was extremely excited but also extremely nervous. Going into an internship position, the idea that I may not know how to do everything made me anxious. I’m the type of person who likes to go into things fully prepared, and with a full understanding of what I’m doing, so I was very scared that I would let people down. Little did I know that I would be placed into a working environment that not only challenged me to do things I’ve never done, but where it was okay to not know everything.
If there is one thing I could take away from my experience here, it’s that doing things that are uncomfortable and unfamiliar are experiences that will teach you and show you that you are capable of so much more than you think. Some of the assignments I was given, like finding contact information and doing research, were skills I felt confident doing. Then there were some assignments where I felt like I didn’t know how to begin. In those times, I had to challenge myself to just try my hardest. Instead of telling myself I couldn’t do it, I would make sure to look into any and every source for information, which usually lead to my success. Sometimes when you just go for it and try something that you don’t know how to do, you may come to find that you actually can. Ironically, all the tasks that were given to me that I felt unsure about were the tasks where I felt I learned the most. I even enjoyed the challenge.
Challenges and Success
All of the personal success I’ve achieved during my time here was because of the support I received from a team that I felt truly cared about my learning and growth. I never would have thought that I would be working one-on-one with a boss who would take time to share his expertise of the industry and make sure I was getting the most out of my experience as an intern. His mentorship has helped shaped me and fueled my passion for Marketing, which I will forever be grateful for.
This summer I was given tasks that pushed me to think about things in a different way and to challenge myself to develop innovative ideas. I was asked to conduct research and share my insights from the data I had found. Even though I have little experience in this industry, my ideas were valued and I was treated as though I was an important member of the team. Because of the confidence that has been placed in me by the people here, I feel more confident and capable to reach the career goals and dreams I have for myself in the future.
The opportunities I was given while working at Viden were some that I will always be grateful for and know will help me in my pursuit of marketing in the future. I have learned far beyond what I thought I could ever learn in the course of one summer. I’ve been able to see how an agency is run, how to communicate with clients, how services help clients, and most importantly the value of marketing itself. By being able to see the raw data of how marketing makes an impact on a business and it’s profitability, I feel like I have a better understanding of why marketing is so important and how it is so effective. The data reports I saw on clients before they began working with Viden and after they started implementing Viden’s services were astounding. They show that even a little bit of marketing can go a long way, and that marketing is truly one of the best investments a business can make.
The biggest takeaway I got from working at Viden is that I can without a doubt see myself working in the Marketing field in the future. I was uneasy about what working in business would be like and if it was something that suited me, and now I know from experience that working for a marketing agency is exactly where I see myself flourishing. If I wouldn’t have had the chance to intern at Viden I wouldn’t have felt the assurance and confidence I feel now that Marketing is the career path for me. I can’t thank the team at Viden enough for the unforgettable experience I’ve had as an intern this summer!
